What we do

ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Cymru Wales commissioning team are at the forefront of the development and decision making process for drama, comedy and factual content on television and iPlayer. We commission the very best storytellers to do their very best work, portraying Wales as it is in all its forms with the intention of creating content to educate, inspire and entertain the whole of the UK.

Current Opportunities

Made in Wales: A bold new development opportunity for factual entertainment

ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Wales, ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Network, and Creative Wales are joining forces to co-fund the development of a major new factual entertainment series.

Read the full brief on the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ commissioning website.

Our Lives returns for a 10th series

We are looking for ideas for single half hour films that will play at either 7 or 7.30 on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ One.

3 of our films will form part of the network Our Lives series which includes 3 films from Northern Ireland, 3 from Scotland, 3 from England alongside the 3 from Wales.

You can see the current run of Our Lives films on iPlayer.

In addition, we will commission films which may transmit only in Wales but will be seen on iPlayer across the UK and may also receive a network transmission. So we are looking to commission at least 6 x 30 episodes.

Our ambition is for films that will really find their audience. The current series has been achieving audiences of up to 2 million people on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ One network.

The series will reflect contemporary Wales in all its diversity and appeal to a mainstream audience. Often, Our Lives films are about ordinary people doing extraordinary things - that could mean some kind of physical challenge, but is more likely to be making something happen in a community. That community could be an actual place (such as 'Dolphin Town') or people united by a passion (such as 'Treasure Sisters'). The films might be inspiring, heart warming, moving or entertaining. They might take us into a world we didn’t know about ('Prisoner of Portmeirion') or take us to an amazing place or landscape ('Guardian of the Night'). We will also be looking to reflect geographic diversity in Wales.

Think about your title, the tone of your film and whose story you are telling. How can the film feel that it comes from the people or community themselves. How will you approach it as a director to make the film beautiful and engaging?

We have set a closing date for submissions of midnight on 14th November.

Delivery will ideally be by end of June 2026, although there may be some flexibility in this for an individual episode, depending on the idea.

Ideas must be submitted on PiCoS in order to be entered (if you do not qualify for a PiCoS account then please contact commissioningwales@bbc.co.uk for further advice)
