Conclusion on the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½â€™s consultation on the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½â€™s Editorial Guidelines

This consultation was open from 7 November to 19 December 2024

The Editorial Guidelines set the editorial values and standards for all ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ output – in the UK and internationally – and apply to anyone making content for the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½, whether it's ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ public service, ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Studios or independent production companies.

Under the current Charter, the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Board is responsible for the Editorial Guidelines and must, “set, publish, review periodically, and observe guidelines designed to secure appropriate standards in the context of the UK Public Services”.

The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ periodically reviews these guidelines to ensure they keep pace with legal, regulatory, editorial, and technological changes, as well as changes in audience habits and attitudes. These reviews typically take place approximately every four to five years.

In November 2024 the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ published a revised draft of the Editorial Guidelines for consultation. Following the consultation the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Board has approved changes to the Editorial Guidelines having taken into account the feedback it received.

The Editorial Guidelines 2025 (published on 24 June 2025) will come into effect on 1 September 2025, to allow ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ staff and production companies working with us time to adjust to the changes. The existing guidelines, published in 2019, remain in place until then.

The Guidelines and the associated guidance can be found below.
