Roles and responsibilities

  • Service lead for ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ iPlayer, overseeing strategic direction, budget and operations.
  • Responsible for the TV Channel Portfolio: ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ One, Two, Three and Four.
  • Oversees Programme Acquisition for ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ iPlayer and channels.
  • Dan is a member of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Senior Executive Group, the Digital Leadership Group and Chairs the TV Management Committee.
  • He reports to Chief Content Officer, Charlotte Moore.

Biography

In April 2021 Dan took up the newly created role of Director, iPlayer and Channels combining responsibility for the streaming service with management of the TV channel portfolio. By bringing teams together into one portfolio it ensures that decisions can be optimised for iPlayer growth whilst still maintaining highly effective audience-focused channels on broadcast platforms. Dan works closely with the TV commissioning teams to build a strong and regular cadence of high impact new programme releases across all genres, crucial in meeting audience needs and delivering on the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½â€™s strategy of Value For All.

Prior to his current role, in March 2019 was made Controller of iPlayer, providing leadership across ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ divisions and a unified strategy focused on growth and transforming iPlayer from being a catch-up service to a fully-fledged streaming service.

In 2017 he was made Controller of Programming with responsibility for ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Content teams in Planning, Scheduling, Programme Acquisition and Daytime.

Prior to that, in June 2015 he was made Controller of Daytime & Early-Peak, leading a commissioning team responsible for around 1,500 hours a year of new and returning series across all genres. New series he commissioned during this time included The Repair Shop, Richard Osman’s House of Games, Garden Rescue and daytime drama series Shakespeare & Hathaway Private Investigators, The Mallorca Files and Hope Street.

From 2006, Dan was Head of Planning and Scheduling, ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Three and then performed the same role on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ One from 2010 to 2015. This period included the launch of Gavin and Stacey, Being Human and Family Guy on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Three and the 2012 London Olympics, Sherlock, Call The Midwife, The Voice UK and The Great British Bake Off on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ One.

In 2000, Dan joined the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ from Arthur Andersen where he worked as a Business Consultant specialising in the media sector. Following two years with the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Corporate Strategy and New Media teams he joined the TV channels as Plan Manager for ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Two.

  • £270,000 - £274,999

Expenses are costs incurred by ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ staff on behalf of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ and claimed through the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s expenses system.

Central bookings are costs incurred on behalf of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ and booked through the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s central bookings system.
