Jed Mercurio is one of TV’s greatest and most prolific talents, his award winning shows are some of the most watched and talked about on TV, regularly breaking viewing figure records. He’s written stories that cover everything from police anti-corruption in Line of Duty to close protection in Bodyguard and overworked junior doctors in Cardiac Arrest.
Writer, producer, director, novelist, showrunner, former hospital physician and RAF officer, Jed certainly knows a thing or two about creating dramatic television. He’s just finished filming the long-awaited series 6 of Line of Duty in Belfast, keeping fans enthralled with behind the scenes photos on his twitter account, prompting many to speculate on possible plot twists.
He’s also set up his own production company with Hat Trick Productions. Hat Trick Mercurio (HTM) Television already has a new ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ drama Bloodlands starring James Nesbitt, an ‘Irish Noir’ thriller set to hit our screens in 2021 and an ITV drama Trigger Point featuring Vicky McClure has been commissioned.
During lockdown he recorded a digital course on Writing Drama for Television for ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Maestro. He’s taken time out from editing Line of Duty to talk to Hat Trick’s Louise Gallagher about his unusual journey into TV, his inspiration and his top tips for those starting out in the industry.
