Hundreds were on hand to witness the evening event at the Merry Hill shopping centre from 6-10pm, which included live inserts into ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Midlands Today and ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½1's national coverage of Children in Need.

ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ WM's Phil Upton and Les Ross hosted the proceedings and made it their mission to chat with as many fundraisers as possible, many of whom had come up with some very creative money raising campaigns.

Among them was thirteen-year-old Taban Hawezy who had her hair cut - for the very fist time - live on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Midlands Today.

She'd been sponsored by school friends and family to get in the stylist's chair having never had her hair trimmed before. At the start of the evening Taban's hair reached her ankles; by the end it stretched to the top of her neck!

Special guests Pudsey, Peppa Pig and Liam from the X-Factor were also on hand helping to raise funds, as the crowd enjoyed live music and entertainment.

Phil Upton @ Breakfast came live from the Rocky Lane Cafe in Aston - a good, old-fashioned greasy spoon - where Phil served 'Pudsey butties'.

In the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Public Space in The Mailbox presenters battled it out on The Generation Game.

Les Ross was crowned champion, after first defeating Ed Doolan in a cake icing competition before seeing off Paul Franks in a balloon modelling challenge.

In total, a record-setting £20,991,216 was raised for ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Children in Need in 2008 with £1,692,356 coming from the West Midlands.

Many thanks to everyone who helped make this year's event such a success!
