ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ WM's Phil Upton launched the Christmas Toy Appeal in a Wolverhampton city centre cafe. The collection has begun!

ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ WM’s Christmas Toy Appeal has been working with Social Services for the past 21 years to ensure children across the West Midlands, who face a bleak Christmas, receive at least one new present on Christmas morning.

The 2006 appeal was launched at the Express Cafe in Wolverhampton city centre onÌý Monday 20 November 2006.

Phil Upton presented his ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ WM Breakfast Show from the cafe and accepted toy donations from listeners.

Jo from Willenhall was among the listeners who visited the cafe to hand over her donations to the appeal. The toys were donated at the insistence of Jo's daughter Hannah, a student at Heath Park Business and Enterprise College.

Last year more than 180,000 toys were collected - meaning that there were over 180,000 happy children, thanks to the support of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ WM listeners.

The first toys of the 2006 appeal were donated at the Birmingham City v Wolves match at St Andrews on Saturday 18th November.

There will be many more opportunities to donate - ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ WM will be collecting toys at local football matches and shopping centres across the Black Country and Birmingham in November and December. The donation deadline is Monday 18th December.
