I chose Ed Sheeran mostly because I love his style of music… the sound of the acoustic guitar and jazzy, soul-type voices such as his. I also adore complex, heartfelt lyrics, the type that really mean something. Plus, if I were to be perfectly honest, I fell in love with his hair just a little… I sketched the picture of him, which I guess pretty much explains the portrait element… and edited the picture on the computer to make the lines stand out more. I coloured his hair and hoodie to intensify them and highlight his more striking features. I printed out a train ticket in black and white. I wanted to incorporate this because of his quote, “If you don’t know where you have been, you don’t know where you are going”, which I managed to squeeze onto the ticket in place of the ‘from’ and ‘to’ sections. I dabbed a painted sponge over a strip of masking tape to create the background. I tried to make it colourful and vibrant because he mentioned that he loves colour. I drew the little paw print from his guitar onto his hoodie to make it more personal to him. I thought a mixed media piece would give me the opportunity to be more creative and unique in my design.
