El Policia for me, visually define the term ‘grunge’; yet they contrast their ‘stereotyped’ image by quoting: “we work quite organically.” The word ‘organic’ makes me instantly associate with the colour green, so I therefore used green to denote El Policia’s cleansed and honest approach to their music. Although it isn’t a “dark and mysterious” tone of green, I believe it also denotes growth and their heritage; - their roots are firmly ploughed in South Manchester, yet they have still time to mature and ‘blossom’ in new soil elsewhere. I wanted to add a modern yet edgy retro artistic twist on their album; so I thought what better to do than create some Andy Warhol inspired pop art on Photoshop! El Policia said when they started out, they wrote on walls, so if you look carefully you’ll see the art work is ‘graffiti’ upon a huge brick wall. I specifically picked up on when they stated 1960’s music such as the Jimi Hendrix experience was one of their inspirations, so I added a pop art icon of Jimi Hendrix on Sam’s tee-shirt. This defines the “heart” to the centre of El Policia.
