Title: Corsetry
by Beth from Warwickshire | in writing, poetry, story-telling
Grey sea-light all around us
my mother at my back
and the whalebone at my heart.
She said أ¢آ€آœNow you are fourteen...أ¢آ€آ
and helped me slide it into shape,
grey sea-light all around us.
It bit my ribs, pressed them close,
speechless tongue swelled in my throat;
and the whalebone at my heart.
I'd never felt my breath so small,
the clean white bone cut all love short,
grey sea-light all around us.
أ¢آ€آœCome up on deck أ¢آ€آ“ he's there,أ¢آ€آ she said.
But all the air was water now
(and the whalebone at my heart).
See me swimming up the stairs
graceless in new mermaid shape أ¢آ€آ“
grey sea-light all around us
and the whalebone at my heart.
