Youthcil.jpgI was called by the ministry of culture, information and youth to participate in a gathering where representative from several other youth organization were also invited to establish the first Youth High Council in the country. I am sharing the story of just three days ago since my writing this topic.

Minister, Deputy Minister, Parliamentarians, and other high ranking governmental official were sitting among the huge number of youth in the International Media Hall inside the ministry's building. When the Minister and Deputy Minister talked on the importance of having a High Council of Youth, the organizer asked youth representative to introduce candidates for the council. Forty four youths out of fifty five raised their hands as candidates. I was sitting in a corner of the hall observing the situation when some of the representative criticized on the process of election and candidatures and they said, the minister and his deputy must present an effective mechanism for candidatures and voting process in order to ensure transparency of selection. Thereafter, some of the representative supported current election system where everyone can vote and some rejected the process. The Minister and his Deputy were wondering what to do? Because, there was no any prior system or regulation neither for candidates nor for voting. Those who already had supporters were insisting on voting and those who were sure having no supporters rejected voting system and it nearly obliged the authority to cancel the establishment of Youth Council.
I had an idea! I quickly jumped on to the stage without any invitation, amazing, I proposed the system of Lottery which was welcomed by audiences. So, two people were assigned to write the name of each representative organization on a piece of papers and put them in a box. A child who was accompanying his mother was asked to come and take each folded chance paper.
It was written in the manifesto that, the council should have nineteen members in total. And after few minutes nineteen youth representatives were selected and surprisingly my name was also in the lucky lottery. Now I am member of the Afghanistan Youth High Council.

    Congratulation!

Now, what are you going to do? Seemingly, you are going to do something for youth or with youth.

But, anyway, as you mantioned that in a place where such a high level of participation from government, uncertainty about how you carry out election was astonished me. At last, unceartinity was resolved by you and you was elected as a member are good news.

    Best wishes.

    Dear Jan,
Thanks for your comment and your question.
the first step is going to be, formulation of the National Youth Policy which is missing so far and thereafter, the council will formulate a wide broad mechanism for the bright future of the Youth in the country, i will try to share the results and decision made by the council if we catch up each other here.

    Hi Enayat!
It's a little bit strange, funny, and suspect that you've been selected! was it really just luck? Just kidding!!
Well that's amazing, i'm fascinated by the fact that we're always looking for tedious and bothersome solutions to sort problems out, whereas some little tricks can work out. Using the piece of papers in the box were thoroughly more convenient and easier..!
    very nice!

    Hi Enayat!
Cougratulations! I,m glad that you can be a member of the Afghanistan
Youth High Council and your description is very good.
However, your proposition seems a little funny, although I have to admit it has solved the dispute. I think it,s not appropriate for young candidates to choose themseves which may not ensure the transparency and fairness of the election. Since members of the Youth Council should represent the youth, their should be selected by the youth in Afghanistan. Once the candidates get involved in the election process, they may think about themseves rather than what should they contribute to the future of Afgnanistan.

Congratulations Enayat!!! You must feel blessed to have been selected for such a big job. I always wanted an opportunity like that in which I am able to represent my country on an international level as an ambassador Do take your job seriously. You are now one of nineteen fortunate individuals I am happy that you mentioned, at the beginning of your blog the various top government officials that were present at the elections therefore this council is very important. I am a bit uncomfortable with the election process since it was a situation in which persons were selected randomly regardless of qualification and suitability for the job. I am therefore hoping that there will be training subsequent to this election. Once again, Congratulations!!

That situation is so unfair. Those nineteen seats should be filled by persons who deserve it. I don鈥檛 think I should congratulate you on something that was mere injustice! I think you should have re- elections and give the right person a chance To know that the so- called 鈥渉igh ranking government officials鈥 were present at the event cries shame to the country and how they go about selecting persons to represent them internationally I can just imagine the caliber of leadership in your country. I do not intend to be offensive but I think that a responsibility like that should not be taken lightly.
