Amy Nuttall and Christopher Cazenove

The professor and the flower girl!

Just "lov-e-ly!"

And "lov-e-ly" is exactly what the musical My Fair Lady is, says Emma from Queensbury who has been along to see this 50th anniversary touring production of this most classic of musicals during its four week stop at Bradford's Alhambra.

Don’t miss out on this fantastic production celebrating 50 years of My Fair Lady and featuring an all star cast with names such as Amy Nuttall, best known for her role as Chloe Atkinson in Emmerdale, and Christopher Casenove.

Amy Nuttall as Eliza Doolittle

Amy Nuttall makes a 'remarkable' Eliza...

The production tells the story of the transformation of a common flower girl, Eliza Doolittle, into an eloquently spoken 'Lady' with the help of Professor Henry Higgins. And the fiery Eliza manages to teach the professor a few things along the way too, starting with showing him how a little kindness can go a long way.

The musical first hit theatres in 1956, and still proves to be a success with audiences today.Ìý It seems everyone still loves a lovely story and that’s just what My Fair lady is - a lovely story!

Gareth Hale as Doolittle

Gareth Hale is 'fantastic' as Eliza's father!

Amy Nuttall plays a remarkable Eliza Doolittle, combining both an amazing acting ability and astounding singing voice. Her performance of Eliza, both through mannerisms and believable accents, really gives the production an edge of realism, as though the audience were not watching a production in a theatre but are rather spectators to a real life occurrence.
Ìý
Other performers deserving of mentioning include Christopher Cazenove, who plays Professor Henry Higgins, and Gareth Hale as Eliza’s father, Alfred P Doolittle.Ìý He is fantastic in numbers such as With a Little Bit of Luck and Get me to the Church on Time.

Stephen Moore, best known for his role as Kevin's Dad in the TV series Harry Enfield and Chums, makes a fantastic Colonel Pickering, adding a real sense of humour throughout the production keeping the audience in fits of giggles.

My Fair Lady really is a classic musical and well worth catching during its stay in Bradford. For a feel-good story and night of classic songs such as On the Street Where You Live, My Fair Lady is just the ticket.Ìý

A feel-good story and a night of classic songs!

This production, which started its life at the National Theatre, is directed by Trevor Nunn and has gone on to win a total of five Laurence Olivier Awards including ‘Outstanding Musical Production’ and ‘Best Theatre Choreographer’ for Matthew Bourne.

So if you have a spare evening in the next four weeks ‘Wouldn’t it be Lovely’ to spend a night at the Alhambra!

My Fair Lady is at Bradford's Alhambra until April 29th 2006.

I saw the show with my school, it was a brilliant evening out. The splendid mix of characters, songs and dancing engage the audience from my point of view because it was upbeat and energetic keeping the performance pacey and not dull. I was most intrigued by the dancing within the cockney scenes, which they created using a mixture of bin lid dancing to pots and pans being used to create noise. Overall, I thought it was a full insight to a professional performance of a musical.

I thought it was superb, the costumes were amazing, sadly we didn't see Gareth Hale the evening we went, but fab anyway.
