funky floor fillers
First
stop was 'Chunk@phunk' at the lovely Po Na Na.
We
arrived just after 10.30, when the dance floor was empty but
the club was gradually filling up to the sound of some appropriately
chilled yet dirty funky house from Crofty (Paul Croft).
Originally
an invites-only private party, 'Chunk@phunk' is now open to
the general public (within reason!), but it has retained its
refined intimacy and select clientele.

Furthermore,
there are none of the cliques that you might expect from a
club night born in this fashion - the crowd seemed a genuinely
friendly bunch.
Over
the hour that we were there, the tunes gradually grew more
chunky and funky and after a few guaranteed floor-fillers
like '24 hours', the dance floor was jumping and the party
had begun.
Alarmingly
attractive
At
11.30, after a short stumble down Park Street, we arrived
at 'Naked' at swanky new bar III.
III's
impressive interior made it the perfect venue for this sexy,
classy soirée.
The
club was already mobbed - 300 people jammed in like alarmingly
attractive sardines.
Deepgroove
duo Lee Pattison and Grayson Shipley were serving up beautiful
summery vocal house, and were joined by Bongo San (or Anthony,
as his mother knows him) on percussion.

The
Deepgroove boys recently received the accolade of 'Mixmag
Future Heroes', and they were certainly reading the crowd
perfectly on Sunday night - as soon as the first strains of
tunes like 'Higher Place' were heard, the crowd went ballistic.
Perfect
finale
A
little reluctantly, we left at 12.30 to head down to 'Scream'
at The Station, where the party was already in full swing.
The
funky room was on fine form, playing perfect crowd pleasers
like 'Do Your Thing', but eventually we dragged ourselves
away and into the main room.
Here,
A* was working the crowd into a frenzy with the latest stomping
hard house, including a brand new tune he's just produced
with Matt Williams.
The
top room wasn't open but the main room was thankfully much
cooler (and less sweaty!) than it has been at recent 'Scream
X12' events.
BS2
picked up where A* left off, giving us even more banging tunes,
such as Shark Boy's 'Night-time'.
Nick
Sentience's 'Afro Tekno' provided a perfect finale, but 3AM
came around all too quickly.
As
always, the Scream crowd was desperate for more.
We
could have carried on 'til Thursday!
