Q: A potted history so far...Born in September 1937 in Hertfordshire, son of a nurseryman growing tomatoes, chrysanthemums, cucumbers etc. I'm the eldest of two sisters and a brother and went to grammar school. I started in journalism aged 17 and worked for many newspapers, but mostly the Cambridge Evening News where I had been News Editor for 12 years before I decided to go in for the radio, too.  Q: When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?A: A painter. Q: What's the most embarrassing thing that's ever happened to you?A: Addressing Barbara Castle as "Mrs Thatcher" on air.ÌýÌý(Well they struck me as similar)! Q: What's the worst job you've ever had?A: Docker. Q: Do you have a catchphrase?A: Nothing is wasted. Q:Ìý What was the first record you ever bought?A: The Wasps Overture (Vaughan Williams).
