How to Join in and Let It Grow

Let’s turn grey spaces into colourful places 🌈

We’re asking you to brighten up your local community by planting seeds, growing beautiful plants, and inviting wildlife, wonder and joy to the places where you live. Inspired by His Majesty’s love of planting we’ve teamed up with Radio 2 to encourage the nation to get stuck in and embrace the natural world around us, so let’s all Let It Grow this summer!

Have you been inspired by the ѿý One series Wild Isles?

We have, and on Blue Peter we’ll be exploring ways to attract nature to our gardens and shared spaces, as well as finding out about how some amazing people in the UK are doing their bit to celebrate the natural world and making moves to preserve and protect it too.

Find room to bloom no matter how big or small your outdoor space…

Do you have an empty corner or a windowsill that could be brightened by a plant? Maybe you have a back garden or a balcony you can inject some colour into.

Once you’ve found the perfect place to plant, what will you choose to sow?

Sunflowers are easy to grow, their flowers will brighten up any space and the birds and the bees love them too! Find out how to get your hands on a free pack of sunflower seeds, by applying for Blue Peter badges. If you want to fill your space with colour and scent, why not choose a herb to plant, like basil or lavender to wake-up all the senses.

Get inventive with your green fingers 🪴

To help brighten up and bring new life to the places around you, why not re-use something you might otherwise throw away like an old pair of wellies, a broken pan, or your favourite mug that got chipped. You can plant your seed in almost any container or object, just make sure there’s room for some soil, and if possible, make some holes in the bottom, so any extra water can drain out. You may need a grown-up to help with this. Find a sunny spot that needs a splash of colour and lighten it up with your sunflower.

Show us how you are taking part 🌈

We’d love to see what you grow and where you’ve chosen to plant your seeds, you can either apply for your Green badge and send us some planting photos, or wait until your seeds have begun to grow. Make sure to tell us you are planting for “Let It Grow”. You’ll also have to answer some super-green questions about how you care about nature and the environment and what you’ve done, or plan to do to protect the planet.

If you’ve already got your Green badge, use the “send your stuff” button below to show us how you are taking part and you may see yourself planting seeds, or the results of your planting on Blue Peter.

We want to see photos and video of:

  • You getting green fingered and planting 🧑🏾‍🌾

  • You showing us the progress of your growing 🌱

  • You and your successful plants in bloom 🌻

Make sure to tell us about what you're planting and where you are planting it 🪴

Your photo or video may be featured on Blue Peter as part of Let It Grow with Radio 2.
