What is VE Day?

VE Day, or Victory in Europe Day, is a very special day in history that celebrates the end of World War II in Europe. It took place on May 8th, 1945, when people all across Europe and the United Kingdom cheered because the war with Germany was finally over.

On VE Day, streets were filled with music, flags, and happy faces. Families came together to celebrate peace after years of fighting and fear. Children danced, people waved Union Jack flags, and even King George VI and Prime Minister Winston Churchill appeared on the balcony at Buckingham Palace to greet the crowds. Today, people still remember VE Day with parades, songs, and remembrance services to honour those who helped bring freedom back to Europe. Learning about VE Day helps us understand why peace, teamwork and kindness are so important in our world today.
