Harvest Festival facts
It’s harvest time on the farm, Harvest is a festival celebrating when crops have been gathered from the fields. In schools, pupils learn about Harvest and collect food for those in need within their local community. Families enjoy autumn activities such as making scarecrows, helping around their farms and having a big meal together.
The name Harvest come from the old English word hærfest, meaning autumn and is usually held around the third week in September.
Watch as James helps his dad milk the cows at the dairy farm they live at. They visit a flour mill to see how grains are processed to make flour. James and his mum meet a local fisherman to see how fish are harvested.
At home they make pastry with the flour they made and bake a big fish pie to celebrate the harvest together.
