There are now over 150 Phab clubs across England and Wales providing social activities and friendship for 8,000 members, “making more of life together” whatever their ability.
Following Phab’s ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Lifeline Appeal, viewers very generously donated £10,592 to support our work – thank you!
Phab’s aim for over 60 years has been to give children, young people and adults with disabilities the same opportunities as everyone else – breaking down barriers and reducing social isolation whilst having great fun together! And Phab is not just for those with physical, learning, or sensory disabilities but also for those without - whether friends or family members.
One Phab Club Member is Natalie, pictured above with Phab President Anita Dobson who kindly presented our ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ One Lifeline Appeal. Natalie became disabled after a life-changing neurological illness when she was 25. Natalie says she lost lots of things in life, including her confidence, but after joining her local Club she feels Phab has given her true unconditional friends, lots of fun, endless adventures, and she has learned how to adapt and have fun with her life as it is now.
And Phab’s philosophy continues through our inclusive holiday projects for children and young people. Most of the children have a disability, often complex, but Phab also welcomes children who are not disabled, perhaps experiencing trauma in their recent lives. And our new Family Weekends enable families to have a break away together. Over the years Phab’s projects have created exciting opportunities for over 4,000 children, all having fun whilst building their confidence and independence.
Amelia, who has cerebral palsy and is a wheelchair user, was nine when she first went away on a Phab project. Over the week she gained confidence, made new friends and even went caving! Her grandparents said “We felt confident leaving Amelia in Phab’s care and she came home full of enthusiasm, pride and a “can-do” attitude”.
