ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ News, interviews with relatives of Air India crash survivor, 12 June 2025

Summary of complaint

We received complaints from people who were unhappy we interviewed the brother and cousin of Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, the sole survivor of the Air India crash, as part of our ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ News coverage.

Our response

The Air India plane crash was a shocking and upsetting story for our audience. We took our editorial responsibility to report on it very seriously - our Editorial Guidelines remind us that we must take care that our journalism does not cause unnecessary distress, particularly to those directly impacted by such a tragic event.

Our reporter spent some time with the family, speaking with them off camera and ensuring that they were comfortable with our crew’s presence.  The interviews were pre-recorded and conducted as sensitively and respectfully as possible.

The family were keen to focus on Vishwash’s brother Ajay as they searched for more information about him in those early stages of the investigation. This was one of the reasons they decided to speak to the media.

We followed up with the family as a duty of care and have maintained regular contact with them since the interviews. They remain comfortable dealing with our reporter.
