ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ News, reporting on Israel's interception of the Freedom Flotilla's 'Madleen', June 2025

Summary of complaint

We received complaints from people who felt the reporting on Israel's interception of the Freedom Flotilla's 'Madleen' has been biased in favour of Israel and/or the language around it inaccurate, as part of our ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ News coverage.

Our response

Our coverage of Israel’s interception of the Madleen, the yacht carrying activists and a symbolic amount of aid travelling to Gaza, reflected and attributed the contrasting narratives from both the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FCC) - the campaign group who had organised the journey and the Israeli authorities.Ìý We explained the circumstances surrounding Israel’s intervention, broadcast Israel taking control of the vessel and reported on the subsequent detainment and deportation of those on board.

Our analysis included the views of those from the international community, human rights organisations and the UN, who stated that Israel’s actions had breached international law.Ìý We also heard the perspective of some of those who had been on board, including the climate campaigner Greta Thunberg.

Our reporting of the Israel-Gaza war has included extensive to coverage and analysis of the implications and causes of food and aid shortages in Gaza.
