The Apprentice, Lord Sugar, non-ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ activity, March 2023

Summary of complaint

We received complaints about Lord Sugar and his non-ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ activity.

Our response

While Lord Sugar presents The Apprentice series on the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ he is primarily a businessman and he isn’t a ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ staff member.

The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½â€™s Editorial Guidelines contain advice about the external activities of freelance presenters. They explain that the constraints for a freelance presenter are not the same as they are for say a ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ News or Current Affairs presenter.

However in the light of recent events the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½â€™s Director General, Tim Davie, has announced an independent review of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½â€™s guidance in this area, namely the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½â€™s existing social media guidance, with a particular focus on how it applies to freelancers outside of news and current affairs.Â
