Complaint
The main item on this bulletin concerned a significant change to the management of the NHS in England. A viewer from Scotland complained the presenter’s statement that the item would explore “what it means for you” was misleading, as there was no reference to the NHS in Scotland. The ECU considered whether it met the requirements for due accuracy set out in the Editorial Guidelines.
Outcome
The report focused on a proposal to abolish NHS England, the body responsible for day-to-day management of the health service in England. As it was entirely clear from the item that the proposal had no bearing on the NHS in Scotland, the ECU considered the phrase “what it means for you”, though not wholly appropriate, was unlikely to mislead viewers.
