Complaint
This bulletin included a report on a nightclub fire in North Macedonia in which a map of the region was shown. A viewer complained that the border between Kosovo and Serbia was represented by a dotted line instead of a solid one, Kosovo having been recognised by the UK as an independent state since 2008. The ECU considered the complaint in the light of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½â€™s editorial standards of accuracy.
Outcome
While it was correct to say the UK recognises Kosovo as an independent state, it is not universally recognised as such, either at the UN or in the EU. The ECU considered the use of a dotted line a duly accurate reflection of this state of affairs.
