Complaint

A viewer complained this programme wrongly credited Thomas Edison with the invention of the lightbulb. The ECU considered whether the broadcast met the standards for accuracy set out in the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Editorial Guidelines.

Outcome

In the programme contestants were charged with identifying the connection between four clues, the connection being they were all named after inventors one of whom was Thomas Edison.  Given Edison is widely credited by the public as being the inventor of the lightbulb, and was instrumental in its development, the ECU considered such a reference, in the context of a light entertainment programme, could not be considered materially misleading, and met the requirement for due accuracy.
