Complaint

In an interview with the then Business Minister the presenter of the programme suggested the solution to the housing crisis was to build more houses.  A viewer objected that presenting the crisis as exclusively a supply-side issue manifested bias against Reform UK, the party which, more than any other, had called attention to the demand-side issue caused by large-scale immigration.  The ECU considered the complaint in the light of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½â€™s editorial standards of impartiality.

Outcome

In response to the Minister’s summary of difficulties faced by first-time buyers, the presenter interjected “Because you haven’t built enough homesâ€.  In the context, the ECU took this to be a challenge to the Minister about the Government’s record, not an exhaustive explanation of the situation of first-time buyers, and did not consider that impartiality required a reference to Reform UK’s analysis of situation.
