Storm Henk: Billing Aquadrome evacuated after severe flooding, bbc.co.uk

Complaint

A viewer complained this article wrongly suggested Storm Henke resulted in “winds of more than 90mph sweeping across some regions”. The ECU considered whether the article met the standards for due accuracy set out in the ѿý Editorial Guidelines.

Outcome

ѿý News acknowledged that Met Office data suggested the extent of the highest wind speeds was more limited than indicated in the article.  The ECU noted it had already amended the text (to read “Storm Henk has caused huge damage across parts of the UK, with the Met Office reporting strong wind gusts in a number of areas including 81mph at Exeter Airport and 94mph on the Isle of Wight”) and added an explanatory note.

This allowed the ECU to consider the complaint had been resolved.
