Precious Lives Planting

ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Cornwall listeners have raised £250,000 in under a year for the Precious Lives Appeal. To celebrate this, several staff braved the cold to plant 250 bulbs around our car park, with help from our own gardening expert Tracy Wilson.

Since January 2008 when ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Cornwall announced its support for the Precious Lives Appeal, listeners have been busy fundraising.

There's been headshaves, cycling marathons, and even a record produced featuring our very own Laurence Reed.

The result is £250,000 raised in well under a year. The announcement that the radio station's appeal had reached this amount was made on Monday 1 December 2008. On the same day ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Cornwall staff swapped their computers for soil to do some planting in our car park.

We planted 250 bulbs with the help of our gardening expert Tracy Wilson.

"For crocus bulbs this size all we need is a trowel as they just need to be planted a couple of inches below the ground," explains Tracy.ÌýÌý

The flowers will be a lasting reminder of how much has been raised so far by ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Cornwall listeners for the Precious Lives Appeal.

"At the moment this bank is a mass of grass and brown leaves," says Daphne Skinnard from ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Cornwall. "We hope in the springtime it will burst into wonderful colour."

Children's Hospice South West has been providing care and respite to families from across the South West of England for over 13 years firstly at Little Bridge House, North Devon, and more recently at Charlton Farm, North Somerset. Little Harbour, the hospice for Cornwall will be based in Porthpean, and will open in 2011.

The new hospice in Cornwall will offer more choice to families across the South West on which hospice they choose to use. It will also provide a place closer to home for many families from Cornwall and Plymouth, who may find the journey to Little Bridge House and Charlton Farm too far, or would just be happier using a hospice closer to home and friends and family.
