Greetings from the sports desk of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Coventry & Warwickshire! Those great summertime grey skies are visible out of the window and I’ve nabbed a free computer to write my latest diary whilst everyone else is in the weekly meeting. Perks of the Blast reporter job is that I don’t have to attend. Where to begin with this week? Let me see… well I did something a little different this week; I left my notebook and pen in my bag, made sure I looked more or less presentable and filmed a gig guide for Coventry & Warwickshire TV, my role was the presenter and it was a great experience.

Now to be honest with you, I hate being in front of the camera, I find that I can’t relax, my voice sounds totally different, and funnily enough I can’t get rid of the feeling that someone is watching me. I’m not always the most confident of people so being in front of the camera isn’t something I get on comfortably with. But I had a lot of fun with it. We comprised a gig guide of what was happening around the area and the idea was for me to visit each of these venues and do a short piece to camera detailing what was on and when. However Martin, my mentor (who was working on TV for the week, and was behind the camera) really seemed to take to being the director and had me running in and out of shots, jumping around on a stage at the Bedworth Civic Hall and swinging round lamp-posts. If you don't believe me ... then see for yourself! Just remember the information about the gigs is out of date now. It’s surprising how much time it takes to shoot two minutes worth of material. Because we were going to different locations the time we spent travelling ate up a lot of the day, and with a deadline to meet there was a slight air of pressure. We managed to get finished in plenty of time though and whilst a grabbed a quick sandwich, Martin transferred the material from the camera to the computer and started to edit.

I didn’t have much of a hand in the editing process as I had to get to my other job, but I did get a quick insight into how a piece gets put together, it didn’t seem too tricky but knowing me and my luck with computers if I had done it then something would have defiantly gone wrong! Next week my Blast life gets back to normal as I return to the interviewing and reviewing side of things. But I’ll be taking a well earned break next weekend to go to the Reading Festival, my only holiday for the past two years and a weekend of; great music, fun, friends, but no showers, disgusting toilets and no sleep whatsoever… paradise.
