Kerry's Diary

By Blast reporter Kerry Gill
Welcome to the sixth week of my Blast placement and my brand new diary. Read on to find out how I plan to make the most of my last weeks here at ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Coventry & Warwickshire, plus a big Blast-off in Birmingham.

Hello, I hope you’re well this week. I certainly am after the first few nights back in my own bed as opposed to a sleeping bag on the floor. Since my weekend at Reading I’ve discovered that I have a whole new appreciation for the things I tend to take for granted, such as a mattress and walls which aren’t made out of polyester!

This week has been more organisational than anything else, full of contacting people for interviews and trying to find some good content to finish my work placement here with. It’s worked well as I'm off to interview a theatre company this afternoon (Friday) and in the evening watch a performance of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Nights Dream, so keep checking back to the Blast index for my review of it.

Meanwhile Blast HQ have contacted me about our end of placement bash in Birmingham. It’s a big get-together for all this year's Blast reporters where we can share our work and see off the end of the summer in style. It’s being held on our very own Blast tour bus - a mean machine which has been chugging up and down the country and visiting various towns for your benefit all summer long. I can’t wait to see everyone that I met in Bristol all those weeks ago, but it does signal the end of my time here and I’m not so keen on the idea of leaving. We've been asked that we all wear our Blast T-shirts to the event which has caused varying degrees of groans amongst us reporters, but I guess a little bit of self-promotion never hurt anyone!

The summer has gone by alarmingly fast and I can’t help feeling that I’ve not made enough of my time here. I’m very proud of all I’ve done, and I hope that people reading the site have enjoyed doing so, but it does seem a shame to be leaving it all behind so soon though I’m sure my poor mentor is dying to get rid of me and go back to a slightly more stress-free life. As for me I’ll be leaving my not-so-relaxing summer behind for a never-relaxing second year of university. Who said student life was all parties, lie-ins and days spent in the Student Union?ÌýÌýÌý
