Having one of my songs featured on a new independent American film has put a massive smile on my face - it's something I've always wanted to do with my music. The song, called 'Don't', features on the soundtrack to a new movie called 'Tomorrow is Today'. The director was looking for a song to fit into a certain part of the film and - of course - be relevant to the story. He found my music online and decided that 'Don't' was the ideal song for his movie. It just goes to show that all these online music sites are SO worth signing up to! Now my song plays through the final scenes and the credits of his film and my stomach flips everytime I see it! Once I got over the initial excitement I got my head down and started to organise releasing 'Don't' as a single. I spent some time in my home studio and recorded two new acoustic tracks to go on as 'B sides' to the single. The single is released exclusively on iTunes and is available to buy now alongside my Acoustic EP and my album 'Flotsam'. My next musical adventure will be to manufacture about 100 cds as LTD edition cds with special individually made covers that will include 'Don't' plus four other brand new recordings (Available only through myspace or at gigs). It's all very exciting to be able to sit down and plan what I want to record next or in which direction I want my next recording to go. It's amazing really when you can log in to iTunes and see your album artwork up there and listen to your songs. I've found iTunes is good for unsigned acts because listeners have the opportunity to rate your songs and when people buy your tracks you are then linked to the other artists they've bought. Someone who's also a Snow Patrol fan can see 'People who bought Snow Patrol also purchased Julie Collings!' It's great! I set up my own Record label 'Perrito Records' because I'd always wanted to be able to create my own catalogue of albums and singles and be able to record/manufacture it all myself. It's all so much fun - although there's some hard work involved too! I've now also got my next album on the way and I'm planning to produce and record some other artists too .. so stay posted to the crazy world of Miss Collings! Julie Collings |
