MCs, breakdancers and turntablists are being urged to help put Derby, Leicester and Nottingham on the urban music map in the East Midlands BASS Battle, which will showcase a range of talent from across the region.

The event takes place at Derby Dance Centre, on Saturday 30th June, and is welcoming Hip-Hop artists based in the partnered cities. The competition is a unique opportunity for the region's finest dancers, DJs and vocalists to compete for a championship title and prizes in front of an audience and a panel of celebrity judges. The battle is part of BASS Music Festival, an explosion of cutting edge urban music and art activity across the Midlands, featuring live music, club nights, dance, theatre and arts workshops, throughout June 2007.Ìý This is the first year the festival has featured events from around the East Midlands and the move has been championed by Derby's Baby J, Leicester's 2Funky Arts and Hella Music (Nottingham), who have come together to celebrate Black music and art across the three cities.

Baby J told us: "We hope that more new artists from Derby will be encouraged to perform and show the rest of the East Midlands' Hip-Hop community exactly what they can do. "We know there are talented artists out there still to be discovered and we can’t wait to find them." 2Funky Arts Director Vijay Mistry said: "Events like these are really good at bringing together like-minded artists and audiences from across the region. "This is one of the final events of BASS Music Festival 2007, which has so far been really exciting for everyone involved and a great success." East Midlands BASS Battle is on Saturday 30th June, 4pm-11pm, Derby Dance Centre. |
