ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Devon is getting ready to pioneer a new digital service and now is your opportunity to get involved. The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½, together with National Grid Wireless, are going to try out a new type of broadcasting called digital radio mondiale (DRM), or digital medium-wave. The year-long trial is centred on Plymouth and will use ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Devon's 855 medium wave frequency for the area. The experiment is the first of its kind in the UK. The trial will start at the end of April 2007. Ahead of the trial, the old 855MW service was switched off on Sunday 1 April. We've recruited around 100 listeners to form an audience panel for the trial. Panelists are being given a special digital medium-wave radio and asked to participate in a number of pieces of audience research. This will help us to explore how the technology works for the listener and inform our future digital radio strategy.
National Grid Wireless will supply, commission and operate the transmission equipment needed for the trial, as well as being involved in the engineering measurement of the transmissions and validation of the results. We intend to publish the results of the trial on this website by mid-2008. last updated: 22/05/2009 at 15:28 SEE ALSOYou are in: Devon > Digital Medium Wave > ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Devon trials new service |
