Thousands of people will be taking part in a big community art project which will create an eight mile circle of light around Southend.

Around 3,000 volunteers will each hold a torch and from the air an 8.33 mile circle will be formed in the sea and on the land.

Boats will carry the participants out to sea where half the circle of light will be formed as far out as the end of the pier.

The Pi Project takes place on Saturday, 12, April between 7.45pm and 8pm.Ìý It is hoped the project will raise community spirit and a sense of belonging.

As part of the event ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Essex will be there broadcasting live on the evening from 6pm.
