Conductor Kristian Sallinen conducts rich, harmonic works from Magnus Lindberg, Florence Price and Maurice Ravel. Written in part as an ode to the sophistication of Ravel’s harmonic writing, Lindberg’s 'Vivo' is a complex and punchy whirlwind of colours, contrasting sharply with the simple but satisfying children’s pieces of Ravel’s own Mother Goose ballet. Meanwhile, violinist Hyeyoon Park dusts off a lost treasure, in Price’s Second Violin Concerto – an unmistakably American jaunt bursting with indulgent melodies.
