About This Event
Out of darkness, a fierce light – and from the depths of hell, the unquenchable power of the human heart. Guest conductor Kirill Karabits is a musical explorer and a true communicator: a conductor who never stints on emotion, whether in the defiant concerto that Karl Amadeus Hartmann created as terror engulfed 1930s Germany, or Tchaikovsky’s red-blooded portrait of Francesca da Rimini and the price she pays for a forbidden love.
Tchaikovsky took his inspiration from Dante’s Inferno but the drama - and the melodies – are entirely his own, and Karabits simply loves them. Meanwhile, Karl Amadeus Hartmann’s neglected, Hungarian-inspired masterpiece brings the Ukrainian clarinettist (and ѿý New Generation Artist) Oleg Shebata-Dragan together with the raw energy and unbridled imagination of Vienna’s Chaos String Quartet; ѿý New Generation Artists who are sending the best kind of shockwaves across Europe’s chamber music scene. The results should be electrifying. Thomas de Hartmann’s “ironic commentary on the underbelly of French society” opens the concert.
This concert will be live broadcast on ѿý Radio 3, and presented by Ian Skelly.
