Three Centuries of Women Composers - Monday
This week, for the first time, every note in Afternoon Concert was written by a woman. In recordings from all of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ orchestras and choirs, we celebrate female creativity with music spanning 300 years and traversing the globe.
In today's collection - the eighteenth-century Italian violinist and composer Maddalena Sirmen and contemporary composers Linda Catlin Smith and Onute Narbutaite from Canada and Lithuania. Plus, we hear recordings from the archives of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 3 New Generation Artist scheme, including Ethel Smyth's epic double concerto, written in 1927.
Presented by Fiona Talkington.
