Swansea International Festival

The highlight of the 2018 Swansea International Festival, this thrilling gala concert celebrating the music of Sir Karl Jenkins will be conducted by the great man himself. Part reflection on the centenary of the First World War, part response to the conflicts of our own time, join us to hear the boy from Penclawdd who grew up to be the world’s most performed living composer conduct The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace, For the Fallen (Sir Karl’s setting of Laurence Binyon’s famous work) and a brand new commission for this year’s festival, Lamentation, based on a poem by 13-year-old Betjeman Poetry Prize winner Amineh Abou Kerech, a refugee from Syria. We are looking forward to welcoming Amineh and her family to Swansea for the concert, celebrating Swansea’s status as a City of Sanctuary together. Sir Karl Jenkins will be joined by the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ National Orchestra of Wales, ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ National Chorus of Wales, Kathryn Rudge (mezzo) and Abel Selaocoe (cello).
