American conductor Brad Lubman and ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 3 New Generation Artist Timothy Ridout (viola) both make their ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Symphony Orchestra debuts.
There are four works - all written in the USA. Bela Bartok’s Viola Concerto, infused with memories of music from the composer’s Hungarian homeland, was completed after the composer’s death in 1945 by Tibor Serly.
The other works date from the 2000s; Andrew Norman’s high energy Sacred Geometry was inspired by a plan for Chartres Cathedral; Augusta Read Thomas’s Helios Choros 1 references the Greek sun god, and is a 12’ crescendo; and Jonathan Bailey Holland’s Motor City Dance Mix will make you want to dance!
