Faced with the ruins of his country in 1945, Strauss memorialised Germany鈥檚 past by quoting Beethoven鈥檚 ground-breaking 鈥楨roica鈥� in his romantic elegy for 23 string soloists. The power of Beethoven鈥檚 third symphony and of its revolution remains undimmed on every listen - a totem of heroism and triumph.
