About This Event
Described by The New Yorker’s Alex Ross as what ‘may be the loveliest apocalypse in musical history’, John Luther Adams’s Become Ocean is a vast, luminous expanse of music with a troubling but hopeful message about our relationship with nature.
For the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Symphony Orchestra’s Principal Guest Conductor Dalia Stasevska – an artist who believes that music is at ‘the core of humanity’ – it’s a story that simply has to be told.
ARCHORA, by leading Icelandic composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir – a master of organically shifting orchestral textures – is also born of nature, suggesting both a primordial, fundamental energy source and an ‘omnipresent parallel realm’ – the interaction of two elements that are in one sense one and the same.
In György Ligeti’s ´¡³Ù³¾´Ç²õ±è³óè°ù±ð²õ, the sound-clouds shift almost imperceptibly, creating a glowing stillness that film director Stanley Kubrick matched to the Star Gate sequence in his cult 1968 sci-fi movie 2001: A Space Odyssey.
This immersive, meditative concert will run for approximately 80 minutes with no interval
