About This Event
Dvořák's Cello Concerto is the centrepiece of a concert inspired by nature - as Anna-Maria Helsing, cellist Senja Rummukainen and the ѿý Concert Orchestra travel deep into the wild and wonderful heart of Europe.
Deep in the forests and meadows of Bohemia, something primal stirs. The soul of a nation, heard from afar? The sounds of nature, untamed and eternal? Or simply the spirit of a young fox, bright-eyed and alert, exploring a world where everything - even humanity - sings to nature’s tune? Anna-Maria Helsing and the ѿý Concert Orchestra plunge headfirst into this teeming world, savouring every rustle of leaves in Smetana and Janacek’s vibrant, life-affirming musical landscapes.
There’s unchained human emotion, too, in Dvorak’s epic Cello Concerto: music of love, loss and unbounded joy, performed tonight by the charismatic young Finnish cellist Senja Rummukainen (“the intensity was total” was how one critic described her playing). And former ѿý Concert Orchestra composer in residence Dobrinka Tabakova presents, for the first time, the conclusion to her Earth Suite – a very personal celebration of nature, unchained and renewed.
