In this WWI centenary year, Georg Solti鈥檚 World Orchestra for Peace returns under Donald Runnicles with Beethoven鈥檚 Ninth 鈥� an iconic statement of brotherhood and fellowship 鈥� Britten鈥檚 haunting Sinfonia da Requiem, and a new work by 膾riks E拧envalds.

Mark Elder conducts the 贬补濒濒茅 in Stravinsky's colourful symphonic poem The Song of the Nightingale and the fairy-tale ballet The Firebird. Wagner's Tannh盲user overture opens the Prom, which also features Debussy鈥檚 sensual cantata La damoiselle 茅lue.

Strauss鈥檚 luminous Four Last Songs and Wagner鈥檚 shimmering Prelude to Act I of Parsifal set the tone for a concert rich in melody and orchestral beauty, which climaxes in Danish composer Per Norgard鈥檚 extraordinary, eclectic Third Symphony.

There鈥檚 a Nordic flavour to this concert from Edward Gardner and the Bergen Philharmonic that includes Sibelius鈥檚 folk-inspired Second Symphony and the world premiere of Norwegian composer Rolf Wallin鈥檚 violin concerto, with Alina Ibragimova as soloist.
