We step into Cinderella's enchanted world with Prokofiev, Chief Conductor John Storg氓rds takes us on a rollercoaster ride in Shostakovich's First Symphony and Christian Tetzlaff performs a violin concerto by Thomas Ad猫s.

Conductor John Storg氓rds has already taken his vision of Bruckner to Vienna and Berlin, and now Manchester, in the first of three instalments in this season. We also pay homage to the late Finnish composer Saariaho in Leino Songs.

Joshua Weilerstein returns to 蜜芽传媒 Philharmonic with Haydn鈥檚 鈥楳ilitary鈥� Symphony and Mozart鈥檚 unparalleled 鈥楯upiter鈥�. Meanwhile Katherine Balch鈥檚 whisper concerto written especially for cellist Zlatomir Fung captures extraordinary sounds.

The centrepiece of this concert is Shostakovich鈥檚 Fifth Symphony as Anna Rakitina conducts, contralto Jess Dandy returns to perform one of Perry鈥檚 most cherished scores, her Stabat Mater and national pride bursts out of Smetana鈥檚 tone poem, Vltava.

Taking centre stage is Bruch鈥檚 First Violin Concerto with Eldbj酶rg Hemsing with its rich melodies or dazzling folk rhythms and Leslie Suganandarajah returns with Strauss鈥檚 glorious Also Sprach Zarathustra.

Fiesta season comes early with the welcome return of James Ehnes, one of the world鈥檚 finest violinists in is Saint-Sa毛ns' impassioned Third Violin Concerto. On the podium, Juanjo Mena returns in a programme with sun-kissed music by Ravel and Berlioz.

John Storg氓rds leads us through the gate into one of Bruckner鈥檚 鈥榗athedrals of sound鈥�, his Fifth Symphony. 鈥疭ibelius invites鈥痷s鈥痠nto his world of Nordic impressionism with鈥疎n Saga, whilst鈥疞otta Wenna虉koski honours this in her own work鈥疺erdigris.

The Rite of Spring welcomes in the vernal equinox, Siberian-style. Full of barbaric rituals and savage dances, come and find out why it caused a riot at its premiere. Shostakovich鈥檚 celebration takes on the form of a procession with his Third Symphony.

Mind-bending and transcendent, our season finale carries us away with some of the greatest showmen in music, with Richard Wagner, Messiaen and Berlioz鈥檚 Symphonie Fantastique, a thrilling end to our 23-24 season led by Mark Wigglesworth.
