Patrick Stewart returns as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in this second feature film spin-off from "Star Trek: The Next Generation". Unlike the rather more sedate and philosophical TV programme, this is an action-packed adventure with plenty of genuine thrills as the super-nasty Borg return to haunt Picard.
Given how committed many Star Trek fans are you would imagine that Paramount wouldn't dare release a DVD of this film without a substantial booty of extra features. Yet this disc has only two slightly poky trailers and a host of Eastern-European languages.
Hopefully the superior mastering of this film will suffice for now. A lot of the action takes place in quite darkly lit locations but despite this there's a high level of detail throughout and the picture clarity is excellent.
You'll likely be distracted from noticing too much about the image quality as right from the beginning this DVD is set to fry your amplifier. From the hideous Borg whispers swapping between your rears in chapter 2 to the sub woofer rumble in 26, there's a cacophony of fantastic effects throughout the film, greatly enhancing the experience.
