Jack Nicholson goes on a moving road trip of self-discovery in Alexander Payne's comedy-drama. If you were left wanting more, you'll not want to miss the deleted footage on this DVD.
TECHNICAL FEATURES
Picture A pall of dulled greying colours intentionally hangs over the movie, and this muted palette transfers to disc
with impeccable clarity.
Sound Three potential sound mixes are yours to choose from. While this is a dialogue-led movie, the sound is rich and
atmospheric. For maximum impact it's best in DTS 5.1, if you have that choice.
SPECIAL FEATURES
Deleted Scenes It would have been interesting to see these nine deleted scenes offered with the option of watching them within the film. Director Alexander Payne is quite right to stand by the final edit, but in the notes he's written before each scene, it's clear that he has cut out many favourite moments. These include a hilarious encounter between
Schmidt and a farmer, and a "National Lampoon's Vacation"-esque visit by Schmidt to the Pioneer Village theme park.
Woodmen Tower Sequences A lot of extra footage was shot of the Woodmen tower for the movie's opening, and has been made into five short films.
Additional Extra Features Also on the disc is a trailer and a charity advert.
