Like most parents, 38-year-old Helen Yarworth, from Newnham, found looking after three boys more than a little stressful 鈥 but she got some much-needed help in the form of parenting courses held at her children鈥檚 school.

"I was lucky because the headteacher knew we were having a stressful time and suggested the course - I had never heard of Parentline Plus courses before that," recalls Helen.

""
All this has happened because I was a stressed-out parent and tried to do something about it.

"The courses were free, and they were local, and immediately we all felt the benefit because I got the help I needed to cope."

The courses were so successful that Helen became interested in working in education and helping children.

She went on to do a certificate in learning support and now works as an education leader at the local Dean Heritage Centre.

At the same time she trained with Parentline Plus so that she could go on to help other families benefit from the courses.

"Nobody tells you what to do, it鈥檚 all about working out ways of coping with behaviour and issues so that you raise your children鈥檚 self esteem 鈥 that way, everyone benefits."

Before having her family, Helen was a radiographer but she was not tempted to return.

She says: "This is the best job for me now. It combines everything I am interested in, local history and children, and it fits into school term times.

"And all this has happened because I was a stressed-out parent and tried to do something about it!"
