+
The Queen Mother was a regular and popular royal visitor
to Gloucestershire since the 1920s.
+
She had close links with the National Hunt Festival
at Cheltenham - the two mile champion chase was named
the Queen Mother Champion Chase in her honour in 1980.
+
She last attended the Cheltenham Festival in 2000 -
the 2001 event was cancelled because of the foot and
mouth crisis.
+ Arrangements had been made for the Queen Mother to
attend the 2002 festival but she was too frail.
Thousands
of local Gloucestershire people signed the many books of condolence
around the county.
Retired
grocer Philip Delaney has treasured memories of his many meetings
with the Queen Mother - she signed a photograph that a friend had
taken of him presenting her with flowers.
