The Friends of Stoulton Church will be offering visitors a glass of mead when they arrive at Stoulton Village Hall for an illustrated talk about the Black Monks of medieval Worcestershire, on Monday 14th March. The talk will begin at 7.30pm when Sandy Marchant embarks on a tour of monasteries and priories of South Worcestershire. She says that she will stray over the border into Gloucestershire too, simply because in medieval times, monastic bonds were strong and the Diocese of Worcester encompassed much of Gloucester. Abbots and priors, granges, tithe barns, mills and dovecots, as well as schools, scripts and scriptoriums, and the Rule of St. Benedict will all be included in what promises to be an unusual and fascinating evening. Tickets are £5 on the door. |
