Caro, who trained professionally at The Frink School of Figurative Sculpture in Staffordshire, says "Beeches Barn Sculpture Studio is a large purpose built development in what was formerly a barn. "It enables me to work on much larger scale projects, as well as enabling clients to see and understand what it is possible for me to achieve for them. "Landlords Will Tooby and Jane Cox have worked really hard with us over the past 12 months to help develop the ideal work environment – it is a fantastic facility." Caro's sculptures, mostly cast in bronze by a foundry in Gloucestershire, start life in the studio as a series of drawings and 3-D clay sketches before being modelled in clay. A mould is made for the piece, then a cement and fibreglass ‘artist’s proof’ is cast. Ultimately the work is cast in bronze at the foundry, often as a limited edition. Her work ranges from small studio pieces and portrait sculpture commissions to large works for siting in the landscape.

"My work is inspired by the amazing potential we all have as human beings, and the subtleties and sensibilities of the ways we communicate through our physical forms. "I aim to produce sculpture that will nourish us and create enjoyment that persists over time, and for generations to come." Caro's exhibition will include a series of pieces based around her interest in the diversity of head forms. Visitors will have the unusual opportunity to view ‘Eve in the Garden’, a 4 ft high head modelled in clay destined for a plinth in the landscape, before the mould is made by the foundry. Sculptures will be displayed alongside her drawings and prints and, in addition, a small number of cement and fibreglass artist’s proofs will also be available for purchase at the exhibition. The business opens on Thursday 30th June and will be followed by three Open Studio days, Friday to Sunday 1 – 3 July, when visitors are welcome to view an exhibition of sculpture,Ìý portrait sculpture, drawings and stages of the sculpture making process between 10am and 4pm. Beeches Barn Sculpture Studio, Bransford will be open to visitors on Friday, Saturday and Sunday 1 – 3 July between 10 am and 4pm. |
