One day during the doodlebug era I was with my friend, John, in his back garden. We heard the familiar sound of a V1 which then ceased. Looking skywards we saw a line and two blobs, the V1 was coming straight for us. There was no time to get into the Anderson shelter so we dropped to the ground. Thankfully the aircraft rolled before hitting the ground, exploding in a nearby field. On looking up we saw all the rear windows of the house shatter. In the usual manner of 14 year old schoolboys we got on our cycles and reached the site in time to collect some hot pieces of metal.
