I was posted to R A F station Birchamnewton september
1944 ,from 416 squdron R C A F Manston Kent to become a member of a newly formed R A F squdron 119, we had no aircraft for a few weeks and speculation was rife ,as to what we were to be equiped with ,some were convinced it would be,Liberators then Halifax, but one sunny afternoon we were told ,the new kites are on the way, "listen out!" we saw specks on the horizon'and what did we see SWORDFISH better known as Stringbags'all painted white fresh from the factory.119 was the only R A F squdron to have been equiped with this type of aircraft,on active service in Uk and Europe 1944/45. There must be some ex R A F bods out there.I am Reg [Taff]Williams instrument/section.I can recall several names - Sgt Baldy, Cpl Callaghan ,armourers Butch and ginger,Cpl Dovey , L A C Nick Carter,L A C jock Hadden, L A C Ferguson ,L A C Meluish,L A C (dinger) Bell.
